Sefwi Wiawso, Ghana: In a concerted effort to promote environmental sustainability and community resilience against climate change impacts, the TICSEP has successfully spearheaded the establishment of a Mango orchard at Sectech Senior High School. This initiative, funded entirely by TICSEP, serves multiple purposes aimed at fostering a sustainable ecosystem within the school premises. First and foremost, the mango orchard contributes significantly to landscape beautification and erosion control. By strategically planting trees, the orchard helps prevent soil erosion, which is particularly crucial in areas prone to heavy rainfall or wind. Additionally, the lush greenery enhances the aesthetic appeal of the school environment, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere conducive to learning and relaxation for both staff and students. Moreover, the Mango orchard serves as a tangible manifestation of TICSEP's commitment to promoting biodiversity and addressing food security challenges. Beyond providing fresh, nutritious fruits to supplement the school's dietary needs, it also acts as a natural carbon sink, mitigating the effects of climate change by absorbing CO2 emissions. Through projects like the EcoHeal initiative, TICSEP not only empowers stakeholders with the knowledge and skills to combat climate change but also fosters a sense of ownership and stewardship towards the environment, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
