Stakeholders Engagement
Creating climate change awareness at a high school level is crucial for environmental sustainability because it empowers the next generation with knowledge about the pressing issues facing our planet. By educating students about climate change, its causes, and potential solutions, we instill a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the environment. This awareness can lead to informed choices in daily life, such as reducing carbon footprint and advocating for sustainable practices. Ultimately, engaging youth in climate change awareness fosters a generation equipped to address environmental challenges and work towards a more sustainable future.
At Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School in the Western North region of Ghana our team engaged about 627 high school students and teaching staff to deepen their awareness about human activities that contribute to the harming of our environment and sustainable future. During this, we also enumerated and reflected on more responsible ways and best practices to ensure the sustainability of our environment.
TICSEP cooperated with Ghana’s Fisheries Commission in this event. They enlightened participants on the need and benefits of venturing into fish farming as sustainable pathway to entrepreneurship.
At the end of the event, some take-home points gathered included;
-Individual and collective change of habits that harm our environment (e.g., littering, cutting down of trees indiscriminately, wasting water and energy).
-The youth were encouraged to actively participate in projects that foster sustainability and consistently demand accountability from leadership on measurable outcomes of interventions.
-The Fisheries Commission affirmed their commitments to support the youth in developing green related SME to limit #youth unemployment and create responsibility and wealth in society.
