In an ambitious move towards promoting responsible waste management by embracing circularity, TICSEP forged a strategic partnership with a SECTECH Senior High School, laying the groundwork for transformative initiatives within the educational institution. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), both entities committed to advancing waste management initiatives, fostering sustainability, and nurturing a culture of innovation among students and faculty alike. Central to this partnership was a circular economy event that served as a catalyst for change within the school community. Through a series of engaging teaching sessions, students and teachers were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to reimagine waste as a valuable resource rather than a burden. Armed with newfound insights, student groups embarked on a mission to assess waste generation within the school campus and harness its potential to create value. With the support of TICSEP, students embarked on innovative projects from February to April, 2023 aimed at repurposing waste materials into useful products. From transforming plastic bottles into waste bins and flowerpots to converting used car tires into furniture and garden accessories, the exhibition showcased a myriad of creative solutions to common waste management challenges. Additionally, students explored the potential of organic waste from the school canteen to produce organic fertilizer, demonstrating a holistic approach to sustainability that encompasses both environmental and agricultural considerations. The transformative impact of this initiative extended beyond waste management, as it also served as a platform for skills development and economic empowerment. By fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, TICSEP empowered students to leverage their creativity to address societal challenges while creating economic opportunities for themselves and their community. Moreover, by instilling values of environmental stewardship and resourcefulness, the initiative laid the foundation for a more sustainable future, where natural resources are managed responsibly, and communities thrive through collaborative action and ingenuity. Through this collaborative effort, TICSEP and the Senior High School exemplify the power of partnerships in driving positive change and nurturing the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
